Stuart W. Chambers

Stuart has a broad litigation practice with particular focus on environmental, energy, administrative, and health law, as well as class action defence. With over 25 years of experience in the environmental and energy sectors, he advises clients on reporting obligations, federal and provincial investigations, both internal and regulatory, and defending prosecutions, with extensive appearances before regulatory tribunals in those fields and in the health sector. In Alberta and the Northwest Territories, he advises clients on health information, policy, contracts, and organizational matters including bylaws. His commercial litigation practice focuses on class action defence, with experience acting for both plaintiffs and defendants in Alberta and British Columbia. Notable matters include representing an agricultural producer in litigation arising from a product safety recall, defending a major Canadian payday loan provider, and responding to an $11 million claim related to a privacy breach affecting the personal and health information of over 600,000 Albertans. Stuart is a former Chair of the Canadian Bar Association's National Environmental, Energy and Resources Law Section and a former Director of the Environmental Services Association of Alberta, with which he remains active, and the Edmonton Humane Society. He volunteers with the Alberta Emerald Foundation and the Alberta Chamber of Resources.
